Job Summary
The Campus Security Officer maintains a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and staff by conducting security checks in assigned area to include University Residential Buildings and reports suspicious activities to University Dispatch/UPD when needed, ensures compliance with University and Residence Life policies and responds immediately to emergency situations, i.e. fire alarms, security alarms, and medical/injury calls. The Campus Security Officer secures assigned University Academic and Administrative Buildings.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Conducts frequent patrols of assigned area for the purpose of detecting and reporting suspicious behavior and/or activity.
2. Monitors Residence Hall entrances for any unauthorized entries.
3. Inspects assigned area for physical security and reports signs of intrusion.
4. Provides authorized security escorts to members of the campus community.
5. Interact with campus visitors while assisting with directions and/or other information.
6. Performs other duties as assigned to accomplish the goals of the University Police Department.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma and/or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D).
One to three months of related or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Mississippi Driver’s License
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge
and skill within Windows-based computer and software applications, to include
Microsoft Office applications, ability to use email to send and receive
correspondence. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication and
interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working
relationships and to interact with students, faculty and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Three
years of experience as a security professional. Experience responding to
emergency situations.
