Job Summary
The primary
duties of the Postdoctoral Research Associate are to support the Estuarine
Movement and Ecology Lab with data analyses and fieldwork related to ongoing
fish ecology and movement research in the Pearl and Pascagoula watersheds,
Mississippi Sound, and northern Gulf of Mexico. This project will require
working closely with the PI, other lab personnel, and collaborators at state
and federal agencies. The candidate will have the opportunity to pursue and
develop their own research within the context of project goals. Funding is
available for two years.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with data
collection and analysis of telemetered fish species.
- Develop research products
from previously collected data aimed at understanding drivers of fish
movement and habitat use.
- Participate in field
sampling events including collection and tagging of large nekton; collection
of sediment and infaunal data; collection of habitat data; and collection
of small nekton using seines.
- Assist with QA/QC of
data.
- Coordinate with the PI
and other lab personnel on report and publication writing, presentation
preparation, etc…
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants
must hold a Ph.D. in fisheries science, ecology, marine biology, or a related
field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- The
ability work during hot times of the year, in difficult (muddy bottom) field
conditions, and the ability to lift 50 lbs.
- The
successful candidate will be required to pass a USM employment background
check.

- Experience with spatial data analysis, telemetry analysis, or community analyses in R.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals as evidenced through publications in peer-reviewed literature and presentations.
