Job Summary
The
Instructional Designer works closely with the Dean of Online Learning and
Enrollment and
Senior Online Coordinator within the Office of Online Learning to provide
technical, instructional, and academic support of all stakeholders involved
within online and distance learning at the University of Southern Mississippi.
This person is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with
faculty/staff/students involved in online education within the institution,
providing technical and instructional support, and assisting in the creation of
engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound online programs. This person
also serves as resource for the University in the areas of AI tools,
instructional multimedia production, and NC-Sara compliant training.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Works closely with faculty to assist in developing engaging instructional courses and programs for on-line course delivery. Utilizes sound instructional strategies, needs analysis, project management and measurement for development of programs. Supports faculty in integrating applications of technology in instruction including identifying instructional problems, developing strategies using technology as an instructional tool, and evaluating the effectiveness of using technology as an instructional tool. And, providing additional faculty/staff/student support when needed for the Learning Management System, other technologies incorporated to the Learning Management System, or technologies students will utilize within their online courses.
- Develop, conduct, and evaluate faculty workshops, orientation sessions, and demonstrations of the use of technology for instruction. Prepares and produces materials for both synchronous and asynchronous modes of delivery. Develops effective learner support systems for faculty and students. Part of these responsibilities include maintaining a departmental YouTube channel, NC-Sara compliance Canvas 101 course, and instructional technology content on the departmental website.
- Researching, vetting, collaborating with faculty, and implementing new instructional technologies as well as creating and updating support materials for both students and faculty to ensure successful technology adoption.
- Works closely with Senior Online Coordinator to ensure quality delivery and maintenance of Learning Management System (LMS). Cross-list courses within the LMS at instructor’s request. Maintain and facilitate LTI connections for specific online courses as needed. Maintain the institution’s template/blueprint courses within the LMS, create additional template/blueprint courses for departments/programs when needed, and ensure delivery of any/all templates/blueprints as new courses are created for upcoming semesters.
- Adheres to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations and performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree, three to five years’ experience within instructional
design, online education, or related field.
