Job Summary
Performs
building repair, renovation, and maintenance in University buildings and
structures to include carpentry work, painting, and routine electrical and
mechanical work. Take the lead on small to medium work orders task,
installation, carpentry and repair projects.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate with other
trades, takes the lead as directed and/or perform carpentry operations to
include the construction of buildings, areas, signs, equipment furniture
and hanging of wall panels and other decorative wall covering in
accordance to blue prints and instructions. Builds, repairs, paint and
installs counters, cabinets, benches, walls, partitions, floors, doors,
and building framework and trim.
- Coordinate with other
trades, takes the lead as directed and/or performs all types of repairs
construction including woodwork, cabinet work, furniture work, painting,
metal work, hardware installation and adjustment, door hanging, window
repair and other jobs incidental to maintenance to buildings and needed
improvements. Fabricates structural components, casework, mechanical, and
electrical components from field measurements.
- Coordinate with other
trades, takes the lead as directed and/or performs construction projects
such as, grading, setting metal and wood forms, pouring concrete for
curbs, sidewalk slabs and drives and other projects. Performs minor roof
repairs, masonry repair, and concrete work.
- Perform the loading and
unloading of furniture and equipment from previous locations to its new
designated destination. Responsible for inventory management of the
carpentry and paint shops.
- Constructs/installs and
repairs building and utility systems working from blueprints and/or verbal
instructions. Performs routine planned maintenance and on-demand work
orders generated from the Physical Plant computerized maintenance
management system (CMMS) and other work as required.
- Serves as a member of the
Physical Plant Essential Personnel and as directed by the Director of
Physical Plant participates in pre-emergency preparations and emergency
recovery efforts and performs additional duties as assigned.
- Performs other
duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School
Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Three years carpentry, painting,
electrical and mechanical experience, facility repair and maintenance or other
related work experience. Driver’s License required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to attend education and training programs as appropriate to increase awareness and understanding.
- Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the internet.
- Ability to drive a forklift, tractor and/or loader.
- Ability to operate mowers, tractors and loaders.
- Ability to work nights and weekends when required.
- Skilled in the use of power and hand tools.
- Knowledge of plumbing, commercial painting, and carpentry trades.
- Ability to lift and
manipulate heavy objects.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s Degree or equivalent from two-year
College or technical school or five years related experience and/or training;
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
