Job Summary
This is a night shift position. Works with
the foreman to supervise, coordinate, provide leadership, development of an
effective team of custodial personnel, participates in the care, cleaning and
general housekeeping of the buildings that are assigned, assists the foreman in
ensuring that all assigned task (football, baseball, work orders, etc.) are
completed. Performs manual cleaning of
the assigned building by the foreman. Uses proper methods and materials in cleaning and care for the building
are and equipment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Works with the foreman to
provide leadership and instruction to small groups of custodians by
leading or directing custodial activities during scheduled work periods
(including weekends), or when performing special cleaning projects, such
as Football, Basketball, Baseball, and other events that are assigned (per
work orders) by the supervisor.
- Acts as team lead when
the foreman is out and works with the foreman to make work assignments in
accordance with predetermined schedules, reviews the work of employees.
- Helps the foreman and
lead person when responding to emergency situations during and after
hours. Emergency situations may include; property damage,
personal injury, water leaks, flooding, overflowing restroom fixtures,
broken window or door glass, and accidents resulting in the
appearance of bodily fluids (blood, vomit waste, and urine).
- The custodial lead must
be able to s how knowledge on the following types of equipment: auto
scrubbers, swing buffers, burnish machines, wet vacuum, carpet extraction,
bathroom machine, ride on concrete scrubbers, ride on scrubbers, and
pressure washer.
- Sweep, mop, and scrub
floors; dust and clean chalkboards, white-boards and erasers; washes
windows, walls, blinds, trash cans, air conditioning grills, and glass
doors. Cleans rooms, replenishes
supplies, and cleans drinking fountain in assigned buildings. Cleans and polishes brass, empties trash
inside and outside, and sweeps entrances, outside steps, and
sidewalk. Cleans windows, door
areas, and stairwells. Clean other
area as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
One
year certificate from college or technical school; or 2 years of related
experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards and regulations, safety requirements and a knowledge of basic first aid.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, and the use of custodial materials, tools, equipment, and chemicals.
- Skill in managing ones’ own time and the time of others while monitoring/assessing the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Skill in the operation of office equipment including, but not limited to, multiline telephone, typewriter, calculator, multi-function printer/copy/scan/fax machine and computer as well as computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and the ability to react and respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
- Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
- Skill in material resources management through obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.
- Ability to obtain a driver’s license prior to employment.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
