 Job Summary 
The Research Services Fellow is a 3-month grant-funded position as a member of a team responsible for providing instruction, general and specialized research assistance, outreach, and collection development services and reports to the Head of Public Services. Opportunities for Research Services Fellows may include delivery of live and asynchronous information literacy instruction, in-depth research consultations, and basic reference assistance at a service desk, as well as participation in collection development. Fellows will have opportunities to use the LibApps platform from Springshare, including LibGuides, LibAnswers, and LibInsight, as well as the Primo discovery service and Alma library management system from Ex Libris.

 Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

1.  Provides instruction in the use of research resources through course-integrated instruction and drop-in workshops presented in person and online. Creates and maintains online tutorials and other instructional tools in assigned areas.

2.  Provides research assistance through individual research consultations, as well as providing reference and directional assistance to library users in person, by telephone, and via electronic communication methods. Creates and maintains online guides (e.g., LibGuides) and other research tools in assigned areas. Working evenings, weekends, and holidays in rotation with other Research Services Unit personnel may be required.

3.  Contributes to collection development for assigned areas. This may include resource selection or deselection.

4.  Participates in outreach initiatives that seek to engage faculty and students with library resources and services. May participate in library programs that support digital humanities, open access, and research data management within the scope of evolving library services.

5.  Becomes familiar with scholarship, professional development, and service activities that are typical of a faculty member.

6.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 
Ability to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or to have an approved legal exemption and/or accommodation on file with Human Resources prior to your anticipated start date. 
Master of library and information science (MLIS) from the University of Southern Mississippi and conferred in May 2021, December 2021, or May 2022.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population of individuals.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays in rotation with other Research Services Unit personnel.
 
Preferred Qualifications  
Applicants with less library work experience are preferred, as this fellowship is a learning opportunity. (Library work experience is not a disqualifier.)
Applicants with career goals in academic library research services are preferred.
Knowledge of library instruction, as may be evidenced by successful completion of LIS 590 – Library Instruction.
Knowledge of online resources, as may be evidenced by successful completion of LIS 656 – Online Information Retrieval.
